A few weeks ago, Valve Nees Network suggested that Valve was working on a new Left 4 Dead game, possibly as a VR exclusive game.
Unfortunately it seems the rumours were not accurate, despite the compelling evidence, such as code found in other Valve releases that pointed towards a possible Left 4 Dead VR.
Valve has since come out with a statement to IGN that smashes any and all hopes of a third installment being released anytime soon.
“We did briefly explore some Left 4 Dead next opportunities a few years ago. But we are absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven’t for years. It’s clear some people are having fun creating misinformation to spin up the community and other outlets. Unfortunately, for now a new L4D game is not something we’re working on.”
It’s a disappointment but it’s kind of expected at this point. Valve just doesn’t make many games these days.
There is some hope, however, from the original Left 4 Dead developers. Turtle Rock Studios is working on a new co-op zombie shooter called Back 4 Blood and it could fill the void left by the non-existent Left 4 Dead 3.
