Here’s one that’s bound to fill the puke bucket: VR Skater. The game’s developer, Deficit Games, has announced today that it intends to release VR Skater as an Early Access release on PCVR headsets in Spring 2020, before targeting a release on PS4/PSVR and Oculus Quest. However, the developer is keen to emphasise that the focus is on PCVR for the time being.
The game’s developer made the announcement with a preview trailer that shows how gameplay would work in VR, including footage of the skater bailing hard. I can see that causing a few tummies to turn.
At the time of writing, I can’t actually think of any VR skateboarding games, so this may be the first. It’ll take a strong stomach and some well-worn VR legs to play, no doubt, but it looks fun all the same.
Deficit Games is a Germany-based development studio that has put out a couple of games for Oculus Go, Gear VR and Daydream, but nothing quite as impressive as VR Skater. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one; ever since breaking my leg in a skating accident as a teenager, I’ve never been back on a skateboard. If I can do kickflips in VR, I’ll be the real winner.
